Nola makes a grand entrance in 1951

Trevor Sleader: "Nola was born in Wyndham and this photo was taken at the Turkey Creek Post Office. Jess was the official Post Mistress at Turkey Creek although Jack did most of the P.O. business as Mum was a far better cook than Dad. Thankfully, unlike her brother Fred, Mum never shared the desire to name our animals as we had a herd of over 200 goats when living here in Turkey Creek. The goats were for milk and meat as the nearest shop was around 200kms away and the roads were closed for most of the wet season - six months! Incidentally, Jess started with the PMG as a telephonist, first in Broome then in Derby where, fortunately for us kids, she met Jack. He was a self employed contractor until joining the RAAF during WW2 and took advantage of the adult training offered to veterans and qualified as a PMG Linesman".
