Donald, David and Ian on Hastings beach
David Redfearn: "Donald and Ian were rather fondly known by my
Mum as 'The Little Buggers'. But she happily let them take me out unsupervised in my pram for hours on end.
That's trust for you!"
Donald Redfearn: "Yes, we did push you for miles and miles in that pram. but not always uphill. Often it was down
Wallingers Walk just outside 4A Castledown Avenue. On one occasion Uncle Bob had made a superb wooden
London Bus with proper wheels etc. One day we sat you on this, told you to hold on tight
(which you did...obedient child that you were) and set you off down Wallingers with a gentle shove to start.
As you gathered speed at a fast rate of knots we realised that maybe we had done the wrong thing with the
busy road at the bottom. We sprinted down and managed to stop you just in time.
Your father was not amused and the day before we left to return to Ealing recited
this poem several times 'Hip hip hooray, Ian and Donald are going home today!'
I think it was from that time your mother kindly referred to us as the little buggers!"
